Overview

Journey back in time through France’s Dordogne and learn of its early inhabitants through the art and artifacts they left behind.

View some of the finest prehistoric wall carvings and colorful paintings in abris and caves, including those at Font-de-Gaume, Bernifal, Lascaux II, Rouffignac, Cougnac, and Perch Merle.

In the company of expert Ian Tattersall, absorb details of everyday life of our earliest ancestors; meet with Paleolithic art expert Dr. Randall White on site at Abri Castanet, and tour the National Prehistory Museum.

Marvel at the striking cliffs and valleys carved by the Lot and Dordogne rivers and enjoy walks through the Medieval and Renaissance villages of Sarlat, St. Cirq Lapopie, and Rocamadour.

Round out your discovery of Southwest France by savoring its unique culinary delights at gourmet restaurants and a tasting of regional wines in Cahors.
